Have I mentioned how much I hate summer?

Urgh. It's over 90 today, though I'm not sure of the exact temperature. It may have hit 100+ when I wasn't looking. The humidity is awful. According to Yahoo! Weather, the heat index is 109º, high enough to trigger severe weather warnings.

I woke up at seven (after about four hours of sleep), already hot enough that I needed a cool shower to be comfortable. If we had air conditioning, I'd be huddled next to it. As it is, I'm sitting where two fans blast me, drinking cool water and holding an ice pack. I have a headache (not, I think, weather related, but just a nasty coincidence.) Food would probably be a good idea, but I'm not terribly hungry and I can't think of anything that sounds appealing. Everything in the house is greasy, or requires cooking, or something, I ate some crackers, and that's it so far today.

Tomorrow is supposed to be similar. Augh.

Urg! Sympathy! @_@ I haven't even stuck my nose outside today (of course, that's because I've been anchored to the laptop all day, but still, even if I could've I would've avoided it). What happened to the window air conditioner that was downstairs? Did it quit or something? I'll bet they'd have some at garage sales, because I'd bet a lot of people are going to be trying to get central air this summer...

You know, nobody notices people sitting in DCL's atrium (with the plants and the four-leaf-clover-cushion things) with a laptop, because it's both Ethernet and wireless enabled. You couldn't connect from there, because you don't have a network ID, but you and Josh could definitely grab a place to sit and bask in air conditioning there, and there are lockers in the basement if you wanted to park anything temporarily, and it's right on several bus lines. The Siebel Center and the Illini Union are also great hangout spots where nobody asks people for ID if they're carrying a backpack or a laptop.

The Union has the advantage of several built-in food places too. I think all the buildings are unlocked from 8:30 to 5 in the summer...

want to come over to my place tomorrow night? I'm likely to be typing again, so I can't guarantee how sociable I could be, but I've got a TV and network connections and I could sit in the chair with headphones and zone and you guys could watch TV or type on laptops or whatever...

Thanks for the ideas! The AC unit is in the basement, but it takes two strong people to wrestle it up the stairs and put it in the window; with my bum shoulder I really can't be one of them. Before Doug left, we didn't need it...

I may hang out on campus tomorrow, or more likely at the library. (Easy walking distance is good!) Doug gets home tomorrow afternoon, so we'll talk plans with him then. Wouldn't want to impose on you if you need to work, but if you can grab a bit of time perhaps we can get together for ice cream/bubble tea/other cold substances at some point. :)

Oh yeah! You have a blender right?

World's easiest smoothie:
1 cup favorite fruit juice
Couple big handfuls ice (I use a full ice cube tray but you've got an ice maker so I don't know how to cross-estimate, sorry!)
Whizz until frothy and drink.

World's easiest gazpacho:
1 can tomatoes
Any leftover bread or crackers kicking around
Some fresh or dried parsley/oregano/garlic (sometimes I use a packet of soup mix)
Couple big handfuls ice (if you have frozen soup stock cubes those work great in this, if not throw a bouillon cube or a packet of ramen seasoning in with the ice)

Whizz, bowl, top with cheese or croutons if you have 'em, and eat.

Good luck...

Mm, good ideas. Thanks!

Thank heavens it's starting to cool off...

We're having pretty evil heat here too. We had plans to run some errands today, but those went right out the window when Kurt heard the heat advisory. We hid inside and sang praises to the deity of central air instead.

I don't miss that kind of heat, but I do miss something resembling a proper summer. It's been cloudy and under 70 here the last few days. WT F'in F? That's not summer! That's spring! Or fall!

Tell you what - as soon as we work out teleportation, we'll swap for a couple of days. I'll even be nice and offer some of the less appalling ones.
